I’ve spent the past 12 months downloading, testing, and actually playing on every major casino app available in legal US markets. Some crashed during bonus rounds. Others took five days to process withdrawals. A few were genuinely excellent.
This site reviews the best USA casino apps that I’d actually recommend installing on your phone. I focus on what matters when you’re playing on mobile: does the app work smoothly, do withdrawals process quickly, and does it drain your battery in 30 minutes?
Every app reviewed here operates legally in regulated US states.
No offshore operators, no sketchy downloads — just legitimate casino apps available to American players.

App Speed & Performance
Reliable and stable — handles basic casino functions without drama
I’ve been covering the US gambling industry for the better part of two decades. Every app on this site has been downloaded, funded with real money, and put through its paces on an iPhone and an Android device before I write a single word about it. My rating process covers six areas:
Speed and stability — I time game load speeds, test during peak evening hours, and note crashes or lag over extended sessions
Download and setup — I go through the full iOS App Store and Android APK process for every app, including identity verification and first deposit
Withdrawal speed — I request payouts via multiple methods and record actual processing times, not the operator’s published estimates
Bonus terms — I read the full terms before recommending any welcome offer. Wagering requirements, game restrictions, and expiry dates all factor into my assessment
Battery and data usage — I track consumption during slot sessions and live dealer games on both WiFi and 4G
Customer support — I contact support with real questions and record response times and quality
I only recommend apps licensed by a US state regulator. No offshore operators, no grey market sites. If an app is not legal in at least one regulated US state, it does not appear on this site. For a full breakdown of which states have legal casino apps and how many operators each state has, see the legal states guide.
Where Are Casino Apps Legal in the USA?
Real money casino apps are only legal in states that have specifically passed legislation to permit them. As of April 2026, eight states have legal, licensed casino apps:
New Jersey — 27 licensed operators, the largest market in the US. Legal since November 2013. See my New Jersey casino apps guide
Pennsylvania — 19 licensed operators. Legal since July 2019
West Virginia — 6 licensed operators. Legal since July 2020
Connecticut — 2 licensed operators (DraftKings and FanDuel). Legal since October 2021
Delaware — 3 operators under Delaware Lottery control. Legal since 2013
Rhode Island — 1 operator (Bally’s). Legal since March 2024
Maine — Recently approved. First apps expected mid-2026
You do not need to be a resident of any of these states to play. You just need to be physically located within state lines at the time you open the app. All apps verify your location in real time using geolocation technology. If you are not in a legal state, the app will not allow real-money play.
Casino App vs Mobile Browser — What’s the Difference?
You have two ways to play at a licensed US casino on your phone: download the dedicated app or open the casino’s website in your mobile browser. Both work. But they are not the same experience.
Dedicated app advantages — faster load times, biometric login (Face ID, fingerprint), push notifications for bonuses, smoother touch controls, better geolocation stability, and app-exclusive promotions at some operators
Mobile browser advantages — no storage space used on your phone, instant access without downloading, works on any device without compatibility issues
The practical difference — in my testing, dedicated apps load games 1-2 seconds faster on average and crash less frequently than browser-based play on the same device. For live dealer games specifically, the app experience is noticeably more stable
Android note — Google does not allow real-money gambling apps in the Play Store. All Android apps on this site are APK downloads from the operator’s official website. The install process takes around 3 minutes and is straightforward — every major operator provides clear step-by-step instructions
How to Get Started with a Casino App
Getting set up on any licensed US casino app follows the same basic process. Here’s what to expect:
Step 1 — Choose your app — Pick an operator licensed in your state. Every app reviewed on this site links directly to the operator’s official download page
Step 2 — Download — iPhone users search the App Store. Android users download the APK from the casino’s website and enable “install from unknown sources” in Android settings
Step 3 — Create your account — You’ll need your full legal name, date of birth, email address, last four digits of your Social Security number, and a valid US address. This information is used for identity verification required by state regulators
Step 4 — Enable location services — Every licensed app uses geolocation to verify you are physically inside a legal state. Location services must be enabled on your device before you can place a real-money wager
Step 5 — Make your first deposit — Most apps accept debit cards, PayPal, online banking, and eCheck. Minimum deposits are typically $10. Some operators also accept Apple Pay, Venmo (FanDuel only in Michigan and NJ), and Play+ prepaid cards
Step 6 — Claim your welcome bonus — Most bonuses are claimed automatically on first deposit. Read the wagering requirements before depositing — a smaller bonus with lower wagering is often better value than a large headline number with 30x or 40x playthrough
Geolocation — Why Your Location Matters
Every licensed US casino app is legally required to verify that you are physically located within a state that has legalized online casino gaming before allowing real-money play. This is done using geolocation technology, and in most cases a piece of software called GeoComply.
What GeoComply does — It runs quietly in the background while you play, using your device’s GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and cell tower data to confirm your physical location. It is more precise than GPS alone and cannot be fooled by changing your phone’s region settings
What you need to do — Enable location services for the casino app on your device. On iPhone: Settings → Privacy → Location Services → select the app → set to “While Using” or “Always.” On Android: Settings → Location → turn on, then grant permission to the app
Common issues — If the app blocks you despite being in a legal state, try: turning location services off and back on, connecting to WiFi rather than cellular, or restarting the app. In rare cases, older devices without GPS hardware may need to download the GeoComply plugin separately — the app will prompt you if this is required
VPNs — Do not use a VPN while playing. Every licensed operator detects VPN traffic and will lock your account. Any winnings during a VPN session will be forfeited
Banking — Deposits and Withdrawals
Every licensed US casino app supports multiple deposit and withdrawal methods. Here’s what you’ll typically find:
Debit cards — Visa and Mastercard accepted at all major operators. Deposits instant, withdrawals 3-5 business days
PayPal — Available at most major operators. Deposits instant, withdrawals typically 1-3 business days. FanDuel and BetRivers are consistently the fastest for PayPal payouts
Online banking / ACH / eCheck — Available at all major operators. Deposits 1-2 business days, withdrawals 3-5 business days
Apple Pay — Available at select operators including BetRivers in supported states. Deposits instant
Venmo — Available at FanDuel only, in New Jersey and Michigan
Play+ prepaid card — Available at most operators. Deposits instant, withdrawals same day in most cases
PayNearMe / cash — Pay with cash at participating local stores or at a brick-and-mortar partner casino cage. BetMGM accepts cash withdrawals at MGM Grand Detroit and MGM properties in Atlantic City
Fastest withdrawal system — BetRivers RushPay processes approximately 80% of withdrawal requests instantly, regardless of method
Note: bet365 removed credit card support in April 2026. Other major operators may follow. Always check the current payment methods in the app’s cashier section before depositing.
A Note on Casino RTPs
Some casino review sites publish a figure they call a “casino RTP” or “platform average RTP” — quoting numbers like “BetMGM 98.3%” or “Caesars 97.8%” as if they tell you something meaningful about what you can expect when you play.
After close to two decades in this industry, I’d call that number what it is: a marketing construct.
Here is how it is calculated. Take every game on the platform — from a 88% RTP penny slot to a 99.5% RTP video poker variant — average them all together and you get a single percentage. That number reflects the mathematical properties of thousands of individual games combined into one figure. It tells you nothing about the game you are actually about to open.
RTP is a property of individual games, not casinos. It is calculated by independent testing labs over millions of simulated spins. Your session — 100 spins, 500 spins, even a full evening of play — is statistically too small to have any meaningful relationship with a game’s theoretical RTP, let alone a platform average across thousands of games.
What actually matters when choosing where to play is withdrawal speed, bonus terms, app stability, game selection, and customer support. Those are the things I test and the things I write about on this site. The platform RTP figure tells you none of that.
If RTP matters to you for specific games, check the individual game’s information panel — every licensed US casino app is required to display it. Choose European roulette over American (97.3% vs 94.7%). Learn basic blackjack strategy if you play blackjack (it closes the house edge to under 0.5%). Avoid progressive jackpot slots if maximising theoretical return is your goal — a portion of every bet feeds the jackpot pool, typically dropping RTP to 88-93%. Those are decisions that actually affect your experience at the table.
